Art By Latina Artists

Supporting Women and the Arts

Living in a post-Ike Houston is an odd thing. I waited in line for 90 minutes for gasoline. I got ready for work via candlelight for more than a week. Every day my sister went in search of milk for her toddler, which we tried to keep cold in a cooler with ice (when ice could be found).

The houses suffered minimal damage (I think), our cars were fine, no one in my family was hurt. And yet, we are all dulled, shocked by the event that has devastated so many and which is still influencing what we do every day.

Post-Ike, I am grateful for the little things. I am grateful for my luxuries. I am grateful for my family. I am grateful for my job. I am grateful for everything.
