Lizbeth Ortíz has been named the official artist for the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, it was announced today by The Latin Recording Academy. Ortíz's artwork will be used as the official image for the world's premier Latin music event and will grace the cover of the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards invitation, show tickets, poster, program book, and other important applications. Ortíz unveiled her artwork nationally today in Los Angeles at the press conference announcing this year's Latin GRAMMY nominees.

"We are elated to announce Ms. Lizbeth Ortíz as the official artist of the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards," said Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa. "Her art reflects her passion and love for Texas culture and tradition, and she has created a brilliantly vibrant piece that captures the rich spirit and prestige of our Latin GRAMMY Award. We are truly honored to have such an imaginative artist be part of this year's celebration in Houston."

Born in Mexico City, Ortíz moved to Houston to attend the High School for Visual and Performing Arts where she majored in visual arts. After graduation, Ortíz continued her studies, majoring in fine arts at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 2001, the innovative artist — known for her signature style of art that includes incorporating recycled materials, various modeling pastes and gels, as well as seamlessly combining painting and sculpture — opened her first of many solo exhibits. As she continues to develop her unique style, Ortíz looks to daily life and the landscape surrounding her as inspiration. Her art captures the innocence she sees in her culture and the tenderness of the people she loves, and reflects her social, familial and moral interpretations.

The 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, set for Nov. 13 at Toyota Center in Houston, will be broadcast live on the Univision Network from 8–11 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central). The Awards will feature 49 categories and will be supported on radio via Univision Radio (the official Spanish-language radio network of the Latin GRAMMY Awards), and highlighted on the Internet by Univision Online (the official online partner of the Latin GRAMMY Awards) at www.latingrammy.univision.com.
