Journaling for the Creative Mind
Day 1: Guest Blog and Contest

Welcome to my guest blog and contest for Art by Latina Artists. I am so honored to have been asked by Maria Sanchez to guest blog at this amazing and wonderful site that is bringing together many Latina artists in support of each other and their various crafts. I have truly enjoyed seeing the beautiful art displayed here and reading the various pages of the artists that have joined our community.

In this blog, I hope to accomplish a number of things. First, give us a way of sharing with each how we support our craft and how we get renewed and energized as we continue to create and produce the books, the music, the art, the sculptors, and the beauty that sustains us and our community.

First, I will write a blog about The Many Faces of Journaling. I truly believe that journaling is one of the ways we honor and respect our muse. See the following guest blogs I have written regarding the muse:

And I hope that many of you who journal will share how you journal, what you journal, what you have found to be successful in journaling.

Second, with each post there will be a poem from my collection, My Life is My Message with a prompt for those of you who might want to engage in a guided journal or online sharing of your thoughts, ideas, and responses.

Third, I will run a weekly contest through starting in July until the end of August. I will post a winner every Saturday starting with Saturday July, 19 and ending with Saturday, August 30. The prizes will be various assorted journals and other goodies that will be mailed to the winner. Winner will be selected at random from the posts of the week.

I invite all of you to join me on this journey of discovery and sharing as we get stronger in our craft…together…

Singing, loving, dancing, creating
These are the actions
defining my Life,
signifying who I am
my reason
my message
my purpose
for through my life one
can discern
who I am meant to be
and what I am meant to accomplish
My Life IS my message

What message defines your life?

So true...I remeber seeing a plaque once that said, Love is like jam, you can't spread it without getting a little bit on yourself...what a beautiful way to define your life.

In Remission 3 years, 4 months, 7 days

I have been in remission from Leukemia - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - for three years, four months and seven days....and I am counting. For those uninitiated to the throes of being a cancer patient, perhaps the question is , "Why bother counting? Why not just move on? You conquered cancer and life goes on." The simplistic answer to this complex question is…See More

FFSF14 (he)Art Exhibit: Call for Submissions at The Mission

March 3, 2014 to May 6, 2014
For our second year of Fiestas Fridas SF (he)Art exhibit, we ask artists to explore the concept of “In Lak'ech Ala K'in” as it relates to Frida’s experience or to the artists’ relationship with Frida, as inspiration and motivation to produce (he)Art despite the obstacles and setbacks in life; approaching reality, no matter how ugly, with positive responses from a place of giving. The Mayan law of In Lak'ech Ala K'in “Mi otro yo”, (meaning “I am another you” or “I am you, and you are me”), is…See More
