A new painting, The Bridge

I wanted to post an image of a recent painting I've been working on. Here's a detail shot for you. It may be in the next The Near Future Ago pop-up show in late August, but I haven't decided yet. It's a personal one. I think it may be called, The Bridge. Kinda raw still emotionally for me. We'll see...

Have a great Week xo…

SF Street Artist Zio Ziegler at Depot Bookstore in MV Saturday, 7/23 at noon

Hi guys,

I was in the studio working on three new pieces this morning and listening to NPR/KQED when I came across a short, noteworthy interview of young SF street artist, Zio Ziegler. (Here’s the link if you’re interested: …

Searching for Guatemalan Inspiration

As an artist I’m always in search of something that usually turns to inspiration later down the road. I don’t consider myself a photographer but I do love photography. The beginning of most of my artwork begins with a photograph. This is why I’m always increasing my collection of photographs to work from. I only work from my photographs, I do not cheat using other people’s photographs or Google.

Writing about being a Latina

I recently re-did my website and put it on Wordpress. I've been adding to it and today wrote a piece about my childhood in Southern California, specifically, the day I discovered that I was "Mexican."

We Are San Francisco, a poem about the current state of our city

Wrote a poem to go along with my installation at Somarts called We Are San Francisco.

What is San Francisco to you?

Change, change.

Shifting, shaping

rapid, thoughtless,

minimize, multiply,

erase, recreate.

Homogenized beauty,

suburbs in the city.

A rainbow of people,

fade into

shades of grey.

Onslaught continues,

more land, more money,

more buildings, more restaurants,

more evictions.

This…

SOMArts San Francisco Dia de los Muertos Event

I'm one of forty artists participating in SOMArts San Francisco, Day of the exhibit titled 'Visions at Twilight." The focus of this year’s event revolves around the theme of gentrification of San Francisco and the loss of culture and people being felt in the Bay Area now.

This has been a difficult challenge for me as emotions run high on this theme and changes in the…

Brave Woman, Brave Heart....

How are you today Brave Mujer? With all the heartbreaking news going on in the world today it's hard to not be heartbroken or affected by it. Nevertheless I encourage you to find ways to mend, heal and restore your mangled heart.

As a mom and woman when I see and read the headlines ...they break my heart. If I'm not careful I can fall into depression and be overcome by it. What I've learned though is that when I'm in that state I have to remember to go through it, not around what…

Roberto Clemente Artwork by Angie Villegas

Roberto Clemente drawing from  my daily drawings !

In 2010 I started a goal to create a drawing a day for one year.  Most of them where drawn with pen only on watercolor paper or drawing paper.  I chose a little more than  a half of dozen of them to make into ACEO  collector cards.

In the picture above you see the…

New sketches and painting in the works

I've been out a little out of touch with my blog and art life these past few weeks, mostly enjoying time with my husband while he is home on two weeks leave. We are half way through his deployment. It's been a great two weeks of family time. I am slowly getting back to painting and sketching. Here are few images of what I'm working on now for Chicago exhibit, "My Life as a Deer".…

A Step Back to Move Forward

WELL....I've been absent from blog posts for 2 1/2 months. Whew....where did the time go and what was I doing??

First, let's just get this part out of the way. I had my two year Leukemia diagnosis anniversary on November 30th, 2012. Instead of feeling celebratory, I felt sad and ever so slightly hopeless. For the life of…
