About Me:
My name is Reina M. Miranda; I’m 40 years old, I was born and raised in Washington Heights and I now live in the Bronx for the past 18 years . I am a single parent and have been painting for 2 years and doing poetry events for over a year. My works have been exhibited at the Museum of Natural History, United Nations and in the HBO Building, also several Pow Wow events throughout the tristate. I also co-host an internet radio show on ESP51.com called Boricuation Cultural Afternoon from 3pm-6pm every Sunday.

My paintings show the spiritual side of the indigenous people who populated the islands of the Caribbean’s. In these paintings the beauty, pride and love of my Taino people are shown with oils, acrylics and water color pencils. And I just began to sculpt figures of the Taino. Under the instruction of my art teacher Aguilar Marrero who inspired me to follow my dreams and with this Taino Spirit was born.
“La Taina” was the first painting to be noticed and acknowledged by Roberto “Mukaro” Borrero who is the Senior Program Coordinator, Public Program and Department of Education at The Museum of Natural History. While it was on exhibit Liza Wichmann who is in charge of the United Nations exhibit requested that “La Taina” be exhibited at the United Nations during the Indigenous Forum. From there others have had interest in my paintings and are now being exhibited throughout the tristate area.

Some of my other popular titles are:
"Peaceful Moment"
"Sacred Waters"
"Taino Past and Present"
"Taino Four Elements"
"Taino Love 2"
"Cemi Island"

I’ve been doing the spoken word at events like:
5C Cultural Club
Notice Lounge
Cemi Underground
The Nuyo Rican Poet's Cafe

I’ve made radio interview appearances on:
Radio Capicu/Blog Talk Radio
New York Pod Cafe
Boricuation Sunday Afternoon Radio Show/ ESP51
The Josaine Show on Thursday Night/ ESP51

The poetry is also another way that I am able to express the passion of my heritage, culture and pride of my people.

I’m also a member of Cacibajagua Cultural Group spreading the music and culture of the Taino Peoples from the Caribbean, who are also members of The Confederation of Taino Peoples.

So in reality I communicate visually, verbally and musically about who I am, where I came from and where I’m going.
