Profile Information

About Me:
I am Chicana jewerly designer and artist from the Los Angeles area. Art is in my soul and in my heart. In the 30-plus years of creating unique gemstone jewelry, I had a sudden calling and inspiration to design my own sterling silver and gold trademarked pieces incorporating my own creative ideas with ancient indigenous symbols and designs from within my own culture. Each of my pieces is made to order, never mass-produced. Also, each piece in my collection is etched with my name marking them as my own exclusive and unique designs. The results have been amazingly beautiful. Thus, jewelry design has become my passion.

After a fire in my home in 2002, I found myself becoming creatively restless. I began to research indigenous beliefs from within my Mexican culture, with a focus on the symbolism and roots of Mexican jewelry, traditional jewelry making and designs – techniques that have been learned and passed on from generation to generation. With each research project encountered, my desire to create my own beautiful Mexican jewelry designs grew deeper and more intense. I now feel that I am fulfilling my calling on this earth -- to touch people’s lives through my jewelry art.

Several of the designs in my collection incorporate a very important celebration in Mexican culture...a day that is very dear to my heart – Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This is a holiday celebrated by the people of Mexico on November 2nd. The origins of the holiday may be traced back to indigenous observances dating back thousands of years.Today, this special event has crossed borders and is celebrated by people in the United States and Canada. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember their loved ones -- friends and family members who have died. This event is very dear to my heart, not only because of my religious beliefs, but also because of my Mexican heritage, of which I am very proud.

I create finely handcrafted art jewelry expressing ancient symbolism while incorporating own ideas ideas and embellishments using sterling silver and 14K gold. While studying jewelry making and design, I am, for the most part, self-taught. My creations are collected by loyal customers from all over the United States and the world – collectors who love unique and beautiful jewelry. Jewelry from Fine Jewelelry by Paulette Avila™ may be found in various art galleries, Mexican specialty stores and museum stores within the United States.

Each piece in my colleciton is a labor of love. The techniques used to create these sterling silver and gold pieces are labor-intensive. Techniques such as lost wax casting, hand cutting, hard-soldering, metal chasing, stone-setting, and surface finishing are used to achieve each design’s unique and original look. All of my gemstone jewelry are one of a kind or very limited in production. This helps keep each piece unique and ensures that no two pieces are exactly the same. I feel that this helps keep the integrity of the jewelry art. Gemstones used are carefully selected and chosen for their unusual beauty and quality.

Art has been a life-long passion for me – not only collecting fine art paintings and Mexican jewelry, but designing and creating beautiful and unique jewelry art pieces with a Mexican flair.

I am fulfilling my passion to design and create beautiful fine jewelry art – jewelry that is not only unique and calls to one’s soul, but jewelry that will be passed on for generations.
