About Me:
As a child I fondly remember my grandparents who always inspired me in arts and crafts. I recall the easel my grandfather gave me to draw and paint to the scarf’s I used to crochet with my grandmother. From needle point to pottery there was always some kind of new venture in where using your imagination was needed in some way. When I paint my dragonflies they are in remembrance of my abuelito, Pablo, and humming birds are for my abuelita, Arcelia, whom I relish and hold dearly close to my heart. In high school the only class I loved going to was art class. As I grew older my mother who I think is a talented artist myself, and I would go to ceramic painting class which was always too short, always. I grew up, had kids, went to work and there was no time for art. About 6 years ago my body decided to go on strike! I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia among a couple other diseases, so I went to taking care of patients to becoming a professional patient and was home-bound. At the end of the year 07' I walked into the Senior Citizen Center here in El Sereno and just so happened to walk into a ceramic art class, of course I stayed even though I'm not a senior. The instructor Fred Alvarado gave me my first canvas in January 08'. I was hooked! I did water color and sketching in the past but never acrylic on a canvas. A few months later Fred introduced me to Yolanda at Casita Del Pueblo and I showed for the Dia Del los Muertos that same year. I'm grateful to everybody who has helped me along this soul-stirring, intoxicating journey. I'm delightfully appreciative to the patrons who choose my work and support me. I admire my three boys Rene, Aaron and Alex whom are my inspiration in life and my art. My older son Rene whom is an artist as well as my toughest critic and I him, of course he does it con cariño and I honor his earnestness. It's a mother and son collaboration, it bonds our spirits. My twins who passionately encourage me and stimulate my tired brain with fresh ideals, another collaboration with the sons and momma, which just embraces my family into each and every piece of art that I do. As a mother I hope that I instill tenacity through my experiences and they will prevail no matter what life brings them. I've always said "Do what you love and everything will fall into place", you will be happy rich or poor because you’re doing what you’re passionate about and at the end of the day that's what counts. I'm finally listening to myself, lol. Miranda
