A new link party, trying to promote Latina arte!

A big thing in the art blogsphere are "link parties" it's where a blogger hosts a party to show off everyone else's work. you post a link to project or picture of something you made. People see it and click on it and end up at your blog! All you have to do is share the link to the link party blog post - like on twitter or your fb page, or here on ABLA!

So you can post a link to your ABLA pictures or your own site, etc..or both!

I noticed there are not many…

This is project is months in the making and I can finally unveil!

I love writing and have been pushing the pencil longer than I've been making art. It has been a dream come true to author my craft books and I'm hoping to do more, but my wildest goal yet is the publication of my novel.

After years of hard work (and tears. and crumpled papers), my… Continue

Why you should have a sketch book!

I never used to be sketchy. I used to pride my freestylin’ ways of crafting wherever my thread or glue would take me. Even when I began writing my newspaper craft column eight years ago, I preferred to make things up as I went along.

That changed last year when I was hired to design my very own Crafty Chica product line. All of a sudden, I was asked to provide…

In March 2010, there will be a series of events in Mexico City, Mexico, Los Angeles, California, and other cities, meant to be a ritual of mourning for the femicides in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua: Art as a pathway of opposition and resistance to violence.

We invite you to be part of this initiative of art activism. Below is the link to the blog we have dedicated to this and where you will find the Call for Entries. This invitation is open to all individuals, groups, organizations, artists and activists. The events in March 2010 will include awareness raising creative workshops, intervention actions, plays and performances and the exhibition of the art work received through the call for entries and the resulting art from the workshops.

For those who do not live in Mexico City or Los Angeles metropolitan areas, we invite you to organize your own community activity during the same month of March, 2010. It could be an Art Exhibit, a book discussion, a movie screening, a poetry reading, etc. We ask you to include the original title of this event “A Prayer for Juarez,” and to send us your schedule, and later on, photos and documentation, to be included in the blog.

To include your event, or for any kind of issue related, please write to us:

Creating protest art transcends culture and gender. We are united in a larger community of like-minds and humanitarian goals. We thank you in advance for your dedication and your prayers for the women of Ciudad Juarez. NI UNA MAS!

Thank you for your comment on my Poppies one two three. That would be great if I could have it printed on fabric! I think it would make a great skirt for those that wear them!

Hola Kathy,
Thank you for the recent response on the book discussion. I look forward to reading your book suggestions.

I would imagine you hear this all the time... but I just wanted to mention how much I appreciate your work! I travel back to the southwest every chance I get and always enjoy seeing your books and creations in gifts shops, book stores (and museums... this past April, I visited the Phoenix Heard Museum and saw a beautiful display of your books in their gift shop). Your work is always inspiring to me. I am glad to know you are here in this network and look forward to reading more of your ideas and suggestions. :)

Hey there. I've been a fan from way back! Your work is fresh and fun. Honey...its like a breath of fresh air. What a great role model to have a Crafty Chica Chicana out there in this world.

I'm still spreading my wings but so happy to be creating. Some people actually "GET" my stuff, too! I'm taking baby steps but happy to do so.

Would love to keep in touch. We "craftistas" need to stick together!
