Alesia,In March 2010, there will be a series of events in Mexico City, Mexico, Los Angeles, California, and other cities, meant to be a ritual of mourning for the femicides in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua: Art as a pathway of opposition and resistance to violence.
We invite you to be part of this initiative of art activism. Below is the link to the blog we have dedicated to this and where you will find the Call for Entries. This invitation is open to all individuals, groups, organizations, artists and activists. The events in March 2010 will include awareness raising creative workshops, intervention actions, plays and performances and the exhibition of the art work received through the call for entries and the resulting art from the workshops. http://unaoracionporjuarez.blogspot.com/
For those who do not live in Mexico City or Los Angeles metropolitan areas, we invite you to organize your own community activity during the same month of March, 2010. It could be an Art Exhibit, a book discussion, a movie screening, a poetry reading, etc. We ask you to include the original title of this event “A Prayer for Juarez,” and to send us your schedule, and later on, photos and documentation, to be included in the blog.
To include your event, or for any kind of issue related, please write to us:
In the US: aprayerforjuarez@gmail.com
In Mexico: unaoracionporjuarez@gmail.com
Creating protest art transcends culture and gender. We are united in a larger community of like-minds and humanitarian goals. We thank you in advance for your dedication and your prayers for the women of Ciudad Juarez. NI UNA MAS!
PLEASE FORWARD THIS DATA TO PEOPLE YOU KNOW
WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING
I miss it the AZ sunsets.
I am excited to see your bead embroidery (when you are complete and post)... I completely understand about the inspiration photos (no need to explain). The fact you find them inspiring is a nice connection for others who might be drawn to them too. Like me! :)
Happy beading!
Thank you for adding to the book discussion, I will be adding your recommendations to my list!
I have often thought to create a Huichol inspired project with my advanced art students. Your work is stunning. I am wondering if you have a website that shows your process (?) Your color placement is beautiful.
Thank you for sharing.
