How do you spread the love of practicing creativity?

As a Mom of three musical and artistic kids, the wife of a Artist/Art Teacher and an Art Educator/Creator myself... I am always looking for ways to encourage myself, and those around me to live creative lives.

Any gift giving opportunities, I am always the one running to the art supply store to buy a set of colored pencils and drawing paper or canvas and paints. One year, my husband and I broke the bank and bought hard bound sketchbooks for our graduating art seniors. Always looking for a way to relate art and creativity.

Over the years we have our favorite books we give. Suggestions we give parents of our students when they ask... "My teenager loves art class... what should we buy them for supplies?" (Music to our ears!)

Well, you probably get the idea... I am hoping for input from the amazing members here on this network. After reading many of your profiles, seeing your incredible creations and being moved by the passion that comes through your work, I know there is much to be learned about how you share your love of art.

So here is the question:
How do you spread the love of practicing creativity?

I am looking back at earlier posts here... just in case anyone still follows, I am thrilled to share with you that my daughter (she is not so little anymore... almost 16!) won a scholarship to attend an art program this summer, here in New England.  She has been gone for 5 weeks enjoying drawing, painting, jewelry making, glass and more.

Hello All... My apologies, I have been away from this site for so very long and I suppose it is mostly because life has taken over (in a good way) and I have just been so busy.  As summer is coming to an end, I am increasingly looking to make time for myself and fuel my creativity.  So where do i end up?  Here!  You all have such wonderful work that is a blessing to see.  Keep creating my friends and that you for sharing!!!

Welcome Miranda and Cindy,
Looking forward to your input and ideas on how we all can help nurture creativity.

Cindy, you mention beading... always a great activity to have these on hand for the young ones!!!

For a little bit older (maybe the girl scouts?) pendants can be fun too. It requires only small amounts of clay or self hardening clay and they can be carved, sculpted or kept simple for more elaborate paint later. The beading can be used to enhance the pendant and the work is customized all their own.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the girl scouts, I look forward to hearing about more of what you do.

I volunteer for the girl scouts and teach jewelry making. It is such a great experience to see them with a finished project that they are so proud of. I also have a six year old daughter who has taken on the love of beading like me. ;)

Welcome Irma.
How wonderful to have all those grandchildren! That is terrific about how you are sharing your love of music with the girls. Have you thought of setting up a video camera to record them while singing? Sounds like it is a special relationship you have developed with these girls. :)

I have one daughter and two boys of my own...your comment about having the girls come over and work with you (being creative) reminded me of a couple of years ago when I bought my daughter an inexpensive pair of canvas shoes and a set of sharpie markers.

This cost me about 25 dollars (for the shoes and markers) and she was designing and decorating for days.

You get the idea from the photos, she absolutely loved making those shoes! When she wore them to school, her girlfriends all wanted her to make some for them... soon she was making bags and embellishing on clothes. :)

I have eight grand children (two more coming one in Feb.16th and another in April) Making ten soon. Well three girls are 9, 8, 7. When they come over they love to paint and play with clay. I teach them how to make things bird houses, angles. But pretty much I let them use their own imagination. I also play bass and sing. So my grand daughters are making up their own songs and they sing them to me. We have lots of fun.

Hola, Theresa sorry took a while to respond. Yes I too loved puff paint. But the Third Demensional Paint I was speaking of is so much greater :) It has a claylike surface and when it dries it looks like cake frosting. If different tools are used to etched the surface before it dries it can make for some very beautiful pieces. I will check out the video and I am so happy to be back on. I only have once a week to actually respond and relax...Hope your weekend is wonderful and productive as for me I will be enjoying the familia time....Julieanna
